barnquilttrails.ca. New website launch featuring barn quilts across the province of Ontario
Posted by Mary Simpson
The new improved and interactive barnquilttrails.ca website is ready for your visit. Our objective is a dynamic virtual living network of people interested in barn quilts. Three audiences: tourists and day trippers; barn quilt organizers, painters, creators; and businesses.
Put on any one of those three hats and visit the site. What works? What doesn’t work? Suggestions? Just hit the red question mark and send us a message with your ideas.
We know there is lots to do. It is a labour of love that will never be finished. Of particular interest is the eventual capability of barn quilt organizers to manage their information. For promoters and communities proud of the trails through their area, it will be possible to embed your trail into your own website.
Please tailor this invitation for your own network, and send it along. We need everyone’s feedback and suggestions now.
Thanks for all your help and encouragement,

Half of Parks Canada assets in ‘poor’ shape

Back on June 19, 2012 while touring the local Lambeth historical society along the Longwoods Barn Quilt Trail, our stop at the Battle of the Longwoods cairn was enriched by the coincidence of meeting up with Parks Canada staff. The sad news he admitted is that the Harper government is not allocating enough money to maintain assets such as this cairn. This aging cairn needs yearly maintenance to keep it in good repair. Mary Simpson promised she would pass along our disappointment to our MP, Bev Shipley. The Longwoods Barn Quilt Trail is all about appreciating our local history. Little evidence remains of the War of 1812-14. This delicate cairn is precious.
Many months later, Parks Canada admits that 47% of all its assets are in poor or very poor condition. A separate sampling pushed that overall level to 53%.
